How should you use California DMV permit test flashcards?
Use them for the numbers and rules you have to remember word for word, then use practice questions to check you can apply them. Flashcards are quick: ten minutes on the bus is enough for a chapter.
Go through one chapter at a time. Say each answer before you flip the card, because recognizing an answer is easier than recalling it. When you miss a card, open the handbook to that topic and read the paragraph around it, so the fact sticks to a reason.
What the cards cover
- Permits and licensing: the age you can apply, who can supervise you, provisional rules
- Vehicle control and signals: hand signals, headlights, the horn
- Signs, signals and lane markings
- Lanes, turns and freeways
- Right-of-way and sharing the road with people walking, cyclists and large vehicles
- Speed limits, railroad crossings and parking
- Safe driving and emergencies
- Alcohol, insurance and your driving record
