How to schedule the ACCUPLACER test

You don’t book ACCUPLACER with College Board. You schedule it through the college you plan to attend, usually its testing center. Some schools want an appointment and some take walk-ins. If you live far away, your college can set you up to test at another center or, at some schools, online.

How it works

  1. Apply to the college, or follow its steps for new students. It will tell you if and when you need placement tests.
  2. Check the college’s testing page or call its testing center. Find out which tests you need, whether there’s a fee, and whether you need an appointment.
  3. Book a time, or walk in if your school allows it. Some schools send you a voucher to start the test.
  4. Bring a photo ID on the day. Your score report is usually ready as soon as you finish.

Testing somewhere other than your college

College Board has a free Test Center Locator. You don’t need an account. Pick your country and state, and add a city or ZIP code to narrow the list.

Then contact your home college and give it the center’s details. Your college decides whether you can test there, and it sends you instructions for scheduling. Scores go back to your college automatically.

Vouchers

A voucher is a code that lets a proctor start your test at another site or online. You can’t buy one from College Board. Your college creates it, so ask your testing office if you need one.

In Texas? You’ll take TSIA2 instead

Public colleges and universities in Texas use the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2). It’s also from College Board, and its practice resources are on the ACCUPLACER site, but it’s a different test with its own scores.

Before you can register, you have to complete a free Pre-Assessment Activity, which you’ll find at practice.accuplacer.org. Some students are exempt, for example because of SAT scores. Your college will tell you.
