United States · Military entrance test

Is the ASVAB offered in Spanish?

No. As of October 2026, the ASVAB is only given in English, and there’s no Spanish version of any part of it. The official site says that’s because everyone in the military has to be able to speak English, and a Spanish test couldn’t show that.

Why there’s no Spanish version

  • Service members must speak English, and a test in Spanish wouldn’t measure your English.
  • Spanish differs from one country to another, which could make some questions unfair.
  • Scores on a Spanish test might not mean the same thing as English scores, or be judged by the same standards.

What this means if English is your second language

Two of the four AFQT subtests, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, test English reading directly. Together they make your Verbal Expression score, which also counts in many job line scores. So English vocabulary and reading practice helps you twice.

Do your practice in English, including the official sample questions, so test day feels familiar. If you have questions about your situation, ask a recruiter before you test.

Can another test replace the ASVAB?

Not for enlisting. The official site says ACT and SAT scores can’t be used instead, because those tests predict success in college, while the ASVAB predicts success in the military.
