What you need at home
- A computer that passes Pearson’s system check, run on the same computer before your test
- A webcam, speakers and microphone that stay on the whole time
- A strong internet connection and a power source
- A private room where you’re alone. No other people or pets, except service animals
- No second monitor, touchscreen, tablet, phone or headphones
How the online check-in works
You can check in up to 30 minutes early. You photograph your ID and yourself, and then take four photos of your testing space. A proctor watches by webcam and microphone throughout, with AI monitoring too. Check in more than 15 minutes late and you can’t test.
If your power or connection drops, the exam restarts at the last question you completed once you log back in.
Free online practice
NBCC doesn’t offer a free online practice exam. Its own study guides cost $34.95. You can start with our 20 free NCE-style questions, and our where-to-learn page lists apps and sites with free samples.
