The approved calculator list for 2026
Nothing else is allowed. NCEES reviews the list every year, so check it again before you test.
- Casio: any model with “fx-115” or “fx-991” in its name
- Hewlett Packard: the HP 33s and HP 35s only
- Texas Instruments: any model with “TI-30X” or “TI-36X” in its name
Calculator rules on exam day
You can take one approved calculator into the testing room, without its cover. Spare calculators and covers stay in your locker. There’s also an on-screen TI-30XS you can use during the exam.
Which one is best? That’s up to you. Pick one approved model early and use it for all your practice, so you know its buttons by the time you test.
How the exam is scored
Your raw score is the number of questions you got right. There’s no deduction for wrong answers, so answer every question.
NCEES converts the raw score to a scaled score, which adjusts for small differences in difficulty between exam forms. That scaled score is compared with a passing standard set by subject experts. NCEES doesn’t publish the passing score, and there’s no set percentage of people who must pass or fail.
First-time and repeat takers are held to the same standard.
Your result and diagnostic report
Results usually come 7 to 10 days after the exam, by email, and you view them in MyNCEES. PE Structural depth results take longer, about 10 to 13 weeks.
If you pass, you see “pass”. If you fail, you get a diagnostic report showing your performance in each topic, so you know what to work on before you try again.
