Which outline should you use?
It depends on your test date. The 2022-2026 specifications apply through December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027, CDR uses the new 2027-2031 specifications.
The new outline reorganizes the exam. Community and public health nutrition gets its own domain (22%), and human nutrition and medical nutrition therapy becomes 40%. If you’re testing early in 2027, study from the new outline.
What about Jean Inman’s study guide?
It’s a well-known paid review, not an official CDR guide. Inman Seminars sells a review manual with recorded lectures, and a two-day live class on Zoom. As of October 2026 both cost $385.
CDR doesn’t endorse any prep product. It says buying one isn’t required to pass. See our where to learn page for more options and prices.
How to use the outline
- Print the study outline for your test date.
- Rate yourself on each topic: strong, okay or weak.
- Spend the most time on Nutrition Care (45% of the current exam), then your weak areas.
- Use CDR’s reference list to fill gaps, not to read cover to cover.
- Finish with timed practice questions, answering each one once without going back.
