Australia · Hazard perception test

How to book the hazard perception test

In NSW you book and pay online, then sit the test at a Service NSW centre. In Queensland you enrol and pay, then do the test online. In WA you don’t need a booking at metro service centres: just turn up before 3:45 pm on a weekday.

NSW

Want a quieter room? Some centres run a Quiet Hour. If you need someone to read the questions to you, call 13 22 13 before you book.

  1. Check you’re eligible: a current NSW learner licence, held for at least 10 months if you’re under 25. At 25 or over, you can sit it when you feel ready.
  2. Book online through Service NSW, logging in with your Transport for NSW customer details or a Service NSW account.
  3. Have your licence, Photo Card or customer number ready, plus Form 1001 (Licence Application), and pay the $58 fee.
  4. Go to the Service NSW centre at your booked time with proof of identity.

Queensland

  1. Check you’ve held your learner licence for at least 6 months.
  2. Create your own online account, using an email address that’s yours (not a shared or school one).
  3. Enrol and pay $42.70 online, or in person or by phone at a customer service centre.
  4. Do the test online when you’re told you can. Access lasts up to 12 months after you pay.

WA

  1. Check you’re at least 16 and 6 months old and have held your learner’s permit for at least 6 months.
  2. Go to any DTMI service centre or regional agent with your learner’s permit, or primary and secondary ID.
  3. Start before 3:45 pm, Monday to Friday. The Joondalup Driver Assessment Centre starts tests from 7:15 am to 4:45 pm, Monday to Saturday.
  4. Regional centres and agents may need you to call ahead.

Other states

We couldn’t read VicRoads’ or South Australia’s official pages when we checked in October 2026, so Victoria and SA aren’t covered here. Tasmania, the ACT and the NT aren’t covered either. If you live there, check your own state or territory’s transport website.
