You’re flying VFR in controlled airspace. What flight visibility and distance from cloud do you need?
20 practice questions in the style of the exam.
What’s in this PSTAR practice exam?
Twelve questions follow the sections of TP 11919: six on airspace, signals and air traffic control (ATC), and six on pilot duties, fuel, wake turbulence and flight plans. The other eight come from the four PPAER subject areas in TP 12880, two each.
Aim for 18 right out of 20. That’s our own target, set at the PSTAR’s 90%.
| Area | Our 20 |
|---|---|
| PSTAR: airspace, aerodromes and ATC | 6 |
| PSTAR: pilot duties and aircraft operations | 6 |
| PPAER: air law | 2 |
| PPAER: navigation and radio aids | 2 |
| PPAER: meteorology | 2 |
| PPAER: aeronautics, general knowledge | 2 |
Where are TC’s own PSTAR study questions?
TC has no separate sample exam for the PSTAR. Its study guide, TP 11919, lists about 200 questions in 14 sections, with an answer key posted as its own PDF, and the 50 questions on the real exam are selected from it. TC asks you to look up each question’s reference in the CARs or the TC AIM rather than learn the answers by heart.
For the PPAER, TC’s sample exam TP 13014 shows the form and type of question.
