The exam is digital, not remote
Most AP Exams are now fully digital, and most of the rest are hybrid. A few courses, like the Art and Design courses, are scored on a portfolio instead. On hybrid exams, like Calculus, Biology and Chemistry, you answer multiple choice in Bluebook and write free-response answers in a paper booklet.
Either way, you sit the exam in a room with a proctor at a school or test center. Bring your own device with Bluebook installed, unless your school gives you one.
Taking an AP course online
AP classes are taught by schools, and some high schools, state virtual schools and online schools teach them online. Ask your counselor what your school accepts.
However you take the course, you still need a school that gives AP Exams to order and run your exam. If your online school doesn’t, contact the AP coordinator at a local school for an exam-only join code.
