Bring these
- A testing device with Bluebook installed and fully charged, plus a compatible charger. Skip this if your school provides devices.
- Your College Board account username and password. A password saved on your device won’t work, so you need to know it.
- For fully digital exams: pencils or pens for notes on the scratch paper you’re given.
- For hybrid exams: two sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers, or pens with black or dark blue ink, for the free-response booklet.
- Up to 2 approved calculators, only for exams that allow them. Bluebook also has a built-in Desmos calculator for those exams.
- A ruler or straightedge, for AP Physics exams only.
- A watch that isn’t a smartwatch and doesn’t beep.
- A government or school photo ID, if you’re not a student at the school where you’re testing.
Optional extras
- A mouse. Bluetooth is fine if it’s fully charged.
- A keyboard if you test on a tablet. It’s required on a tablet for fully digital exams. Keyboards aren’t allowed with laptops.
- A power bank or external laptop battery. Put it on your desk for the proctor to check.
- A wired headset for world language and Music Theory exams, if your school doesn’t provide one.
Leave these out
Having a banned item during the exam or the break can get you dismissed and your score canceled, so check your bag before you go in.
- Phones, smartwatches, smart glasses and any other electronics apart from your testing device
- Styluses, including Apple Pencils
- Books, notes, dictionaries, highlighters and colored pencils
- Earbuds and headphones, apart from wired headsets for language and Music Theory exams
- Hats, unless worn for religious or medical reasons
- Food and drinks in the room. You can get a snack or water during the 10-minute break.
Looking for your “AP ID”?
College Board’s current what-to-bring list doesn’t ask for an AP ID number. What you need for a digital exam is your College Board account sign-in. If your coordinator gives you any other number or label, bring it along.
