What to bring to the CPA Exam

Bring your Notice to Schedule (NTS) and the identification it asks for. NASBA says you must show the NTS at the test center before you start. Make sure your name matches your NASBA record exactly, and if you’re testing outside the US, bring your passport.

Your Notice to Schedule

Your NTS arrives after you’re approved and you’ve paid for a section. It lists the section you can take, the expiration date and the details Prometric needs when you book. Each NTS is good for one test or until it expires, whichever comes first.

Print it or keep it handy. If you lose it, you can view it again in NASBA’s CPA Portal or the NASBA CPA Mobile app.

Identification

Bring the ID listed on your NTS and in Prometric’s instructions. Your candidate information has to match NASBA’s records, so fix any name difference with your board before test day, not at the desk.

For testing outside the US, NASBA asks for a valid passport or national ID card, and the AICPA says a passport is the main form of ID.

What you can take in

Very little. Prometric publishes a list of pre-approved items, and everything else goes in a locker. You don’t need your own calculator, because the exam has a four-function calculator and a spreadsheet tool built in.

Before you leave home

  • Check your NTS hasn’t expired.
  • Confirm your appointment time and test center.
  • Check Prometric’s site closures page if the weather is bad.
  • Plan for breaks. The clock only stops for 15 minutes if you break after testlet three.
