How much does the HESI A2 cost?

There’s no single public price. Your school orders the HESI A2 from Elsevier and decides what you pay. As of October 2026, Elsevier doesn’t publish a standard fee for test-takers. You’ll either pay your school, or pay Elsevier directly through a payment link your school sends you. Ask your admissions office for the total before you book.

Why your school sets the price

The HESI A2 isn’t sold straight to the public. Schools order it from Elsevier, choose the sections and set up the test dates. When a school orders, it picks how the exam gets paid for: by the school itself, by invoice, or by billing the students.

So two schools can charge different amounts for what looks like the same exam. Some cover the cost themselves. Others pass it on to you.

How you pay

  • Your school pays: you may pay the school instead, or nothing at all.
  • Student pay: your instructor sends a HESI e-Commerce payment email. You confirm the payment ID, program and price, then pay by card.
  • Each payment ID can be used only once.
  • Your receipt is saved in your account under Payment History. Bring it on test day if your school asks for proof of payment.

Remote and Prometric testing

If your school uses remote proctoring through ProctorU, the exam and the proctoring fee can be bundled into a single payment that you make before you test.

If you book through Prometric, watch the dates. Elsevier’s rules as of October 2026:

  • Cancel 30 or more days before: full refund.
  • Cancel 5 to 29 days before: partial refund, minus the reschedule or cancel fee.
  • Cancel within 5 days: no refund.
  • Reschedule at least 30 calendar days before, or extra fees or losing your fee may apply.

Costs that catch people out

  • Your ID doesn’t match your Evolve name: at a Prometric center you can be turned away and lose your fee.
  • Your setup fails for a remote exam: Elsevier says exams not completed because the test-taker didn’t meet the requirements don’t qualify for a free exam or a refund.
  • Retakes: you’ll usually pay again, at whatever your school charges.

Study costs

You don’t need to buy anything to take the test. Elsevier’s review book, Admission Assessment Exam Review, is $45.99 in print on Elsevier’s US store as of October 2026. The eBook lists at $42.99. Free practice is available too, including the 20 questions on our practice test page.
