Can you take the HESI A2 online?

Yes, if your school offers it. As of October 2026, Elsevier runs remote HESI A2 exams with a live proctor watching through your webcam. Depending on your school, that’s Prometric’s ProProctor or ProctorU. It’s the same exam as in person, and your school decides whether remote testing is allowed. You can’t take it online without your school setting it up.

What you need

  • A computer the remote system supports. Run the ProProctor readiness check before test day, and again just before your exam.
  • A working webcam you can lift for a full room scan, plus a microphone and speakers
  • Only one monitor
  • A private room with covered windows and a closed door. No people or pets in the room.
  • Earbuds aren’t allowed. Wired headphones only with approval before you book.
  • VPN turned off, and other apps closed

Before you start

Turn your volume up first. On ProProctor, you can’t adjust it once the exam is running. Have your confirmation code and Evolve login written down.

If something goes wrong

It’s your job to make sure your device, internet and room meet the rules. Elsevier says exams not finished because you didn’t meet them don’t qualify for a free exam or a refund. If you leave the secure browser mid-exam, you may not get back in without the proctor’s help. Elsevier’s HESI testing emergency number is 1-844-960-4374.

Practicing online is different

Online practice tests, like ours, are just for study. They don’t count. The only HESI A2 score schools see comes from a proctored exam set up by a school.
