Where to study for the North Carolina permit test

Start with the free North Carolina Driver Handbook on the NCDMV website. Both permit tests come from it, and it’s also in Spanish. If you want more practice, the apps and websites below are the ones people actually use. We checked each one’s price and what you get for free in October 2026.

Both permit tests are based on this, and NCDMV says everything on the signs test is in it. Chapter 1 covers the teen permit rules and Chapter 5 the signs. The Spanish edition is the Manual de Manejo de Carolina del Norte.
