Taking the Casper test online

Casper is only offered online. You take it from home or any quiet, private space on a desktop or laptop, using Chrome or Firefox, with your webcam and microphone on the whole time. Acuity doesn’t ask you to install proctoring software, but your camera is used to check your identity and watch the session. Run the System Check within 6 hours of your start time.

Tech you need

  • A desktop or laptop. Smartphones, tablets and Chromebooks aren’t supported. Linux and 2-in-1 devices like a Surface may have problems.
  • The latest Chrome or Firefox. No other browsers work. Having both installed is a good backup.
  • A webcam and microphone, allowed in your browser settings.
  • Internet of at least 1.5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload. A wired connection is best. Avoid public or shared Wi-Fi.

Before you start

  1. Run the System Check within 6 hours of your test, using the same computer, internet, webcam and room.
  2. Close Zoom, Teams and other apps, turn off any VPN and browser extensions like Grammarly, and restart your computer.
  3. Log in at least 30 minutes early.
  4. Start within 15 minutes of your scheduled time. Late entry isn’t guaranteed, and you may have to reschedule and pay a fee.

  • Take it alone, with no help from anyone, unless you have approved accommodations.
  • Keep your webcam on, uncovered and facing you the whole time, even after the video section. Turning it off can invalidate your test.
  • Type your answers in real time. Copy and paste is turned off.
  • Don’t copy, record or share any test content.
  • Breaking the rules can lead to a cancelled score, and Acuity may tell your programs.

If something goes wrong

Use the chat icon on the test screen for live help. If a technical problem on Acuity’s side affects your test, report it within one week. A retake is only considered for rare technical problems that aren’t caused by your own device or internet, and only if another date is open.
