How much does the CFP exam cost in Canada?

As of October 2026, the CFP exam costs $950 if you register by the early-bird deadline, or $1,050 after. The QAFP exam is $650 early or $750. Tax is added to every FP Canada fee. The exam is only one part of the cost, though. You also pay for the required education and, once you pass, for certification each year.

Getting money back if plans change

  • Withdraw before the early-bird deadline and you get 100% back.
  • Withdraw before registration closes and you get 50% back.
  • After that, there’s no refund. You can postpone once, to the next sitting only, for $250 up to a week after the exam.
  • Once you’ve started the exam, you can’t withdraw or postpone that registration.

What “fee-only CFP” means

If you searched for a “fee-only CFP”, that’s about how a planner is paid, not about the exam. A fee-only planner charges clients directly, by the hour, a flat fee or a retainer, rather than earning commissions on products. FP Canada’s Planner Directory lets you look up certified planners.
