What your setup needs
FP Canada strongly recommends a personal computer, not a work laptop. Company firewalls cause most of the problems.
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC (not S mode) or a Mac on macOS 11 or later. Chromebooks, tablets and Linux aren’t supported.
- A webcam, a microphone and one monitor only.
- A phone or tablet for a second camera view, with its charger.
- At least 3 Mbps upload and download. A wired connection is strongly recommended.
- The Guardian secure browser installed before exam day.
- An extension cord of at least six feet, a cleared desk, and walls in front and behind you clear of notes.
Steps before exam day
- Watch for an email from Meazure Learning with your Yardstick account details, and keep your password safe. No one can give it to you on exam day.
- Log in at least 72 hours before the exam and book your connection time. You can change it until about three weeks before.
- Run the Test It Out system check on the same computer and internet you’ll use. It’s mandatory. If you skip it and can’t connect, you’re counted as a no-show and lose your fee.
- On the day, log in at least 10 minutes early. The proctor checks your ID and scans your room before the timer starts.
Rules during the exam
- No watch, headphones, hat or bulky clothing. Religious attire is fine.
- Your phone has to be out of reach, and the proctor will ask to see where it is.
- Don’t read aloud or keep looking away from the screen. Both can be flagged.
- If you log on more than 30 minutes late, you’re treated as a no-show.
