On a DC learner permit, when and with whom may you drive?
20 practice questions in the style of the knowledge test.
How close is this DC learner’s permit practice test to the real one?
The topics match: the knowledge test checks traffic laws, road signs and safe driving, including sharing the road with people on foot and on bikes. The length doesn’t. The GRAD test for ages 16 to 20 has 35 questions in 75 minutes, and the standard test for 21 and older has 30 in 60 minutes. These aren’t DC DMV’s questions, so treat a pass here as a sign you’re on track, not a promise.
Many of them are on rules that are DC’s own, such as the 20 mph default limit, 15 mph school zones from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the WALK countdown at pre-timed signals. Those are the ones a general practice test can get wrong.
DC DMV’s own practice test
DC DMV links a 25-question practice knowledge test of its own, which uses sample questions rather than real ones. It was paused when the where-to-learn page was last checked. That page tracks it, along with apps and driving schools.
