How to schedule the FAA written exam with PSI

You schedule every FAA written exam online with PSI Services, the company that gives the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) knowledge tests. Before PSI will let you make an account, you need an FAA Tracking Number (FTN), which you get by creating a profile in the FAA’s Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA), and an authenticator app for PSI’s sign-in check. Then you pick your test, a center, a date and a time, and pay.

How do you schedule the FAA written exam?

  1. Create your profile in IACRA. The FAA’s testing matrix asks applicants without an FTN to do this before taking any knowledge test, and the FTN is printed on your test report.
  2. Go to PSI’s FAA site and create an account with your FTN. PSI checks your FTN and your first and last name against IACRA, so you can’t change your name on PSI’s form: fix it in IACRA instead.
  3. Set up the authenticator app. PSI’s sign-in uses multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  4. Choose your test by name and code, then a test center, date and time. If you need an accommodation for a disability, answer yes when PSI asks.
  5. Pay PSI’s fee. A confirmation email from faa_support@psionline.com gives the date, time, address and directions.

Have your endorsement or other authorization before test day: the proctor scans it at check-in, and without it you can’t test.

PSI Exams for the FAA: what the site is

PSI Exams (faa.psiexams.com) is PSI’s own scheduling site for FAA knowledge tests. PSI Services LLC is the FAA’s vendor under the Airman Certificate Testing Service (ACTS) contract, and the FAA’s Airman Testing page links to PSI’s site for scheduling, for its sample tests and for its list of test centers.

The FAA’s September 2026 advisory says PSI is moving its certification exams to PSI’s Test Taker Portal, and that FAA exam content, standards, oversight and security stay the same.

Rescheduling, and getting help

PSI says you can reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment. Its bulletins say a voicemail isn’t accepted as notice, so speak to a representative if you call. For account questions, PSI’s toll-free line is (844) 704-1487.
