How to register for the GMAT

You register for the GMAT on mba.com. Create a free account, choose a test center or the online exam, pick a date and time, and pay. There are no fixed GMAT test dates: you book any open appointment, and the online exam runs around the clock.

How to book

  1. Create an account on mba.com. Use your name exactly as it appears on the ID you’ll bring.
  2. Choose how to test: at a test center or online at home.
  3. Pick a date, time and, for a test center, a location.
  4. Pay the fee: $275 at a US or Canadian test center, or $300 online, as of October 2026.
  5. Check your confirmation email and keep it.

Test dates and where you can take it

There’s no GMAT calendar to wait for. When you book, mba.com shows the open appointments, and you pick one. That’s the same in New York, Toronto or Singapore.

For a test center, you choose a location when you book. The online exam is offered around the clock everywhere except mainland China, Iran, Cuba, Sudan and North Korea, where you’d need a test center.

Who can register

You must be at least 18 to schedule and take the GMAT. If you’re 13 to 17, you can take it at a test center with written consent from a parent or guardian, sent before you book. The online exam is for test takers 18 and over.

If you need testing accommodations for a disability, apply first. You must be approved before you schedule, and then follow the special registration instructions GMAC sends you.

When should you take the GMAT?

Work back from your application deadlines. Leave time for a retake, because you must wait 16 days between attempts, and your official score takes about three to five days to arrive.

Booking early also helps if you need to move your date. Rescheduling fees are lowest more than 60 days ahead, and you can’t change an appointment within 24 hours of it.

If you need to take it again

You can take the GMAT up to five times in any rolling 12 months, online and test center attempts combined. There’s no longer a lifetime limit, and each retake costs the full fee. Our retake page has the rest of the rules.
