What to bring to the GMAT

Bring one valid, original, government-issued photo ID that exactly matches the name, date of birth and citizenship on your mba.com profile. That’s the one thing you can’t forget. At a test center you get noteboards to write on, so leave pens, paper, your phone and your watch in the locker.

Your ID must

If you’re testing outside your country of citizenship, you’ll usually need your passport. Rules vary by country, so check GMAC’s ID page for where you’ll test. If your ID doesn’t match, you can be turned away and lose your fee.

  • Be current, not expired.
  • Be valid and issued by a government.
  • Be the original. Photocopies aren’t accepted.
  • Exactly match the name, date of birth and country of citizenship you used when you booked.
  • Have a recent photo that looks like you, and your signature.

What you can take into the test center room

Everything else goes in a locker: phone, watch, wallet, bag, notes and food. You can use your snacks during the optional break.

You don’t bring scratch paper. The test administrator gives you the equivalent of five erasable noteboards and a pen, and swaps them for fresh ones if you raise your hand. You can only start writing once the timed exam begins, and you hand the noteboards back at the end.

  • Your ID and locker key
  • A light sweater or jacket (not outerwear)
  • Prescription glasses, without the case
  • Permitted comfort items, checked by the test administrator

What to have ready for the online exam

You’ll show your room and whiteboard to the proctor on camera, and erase the whiteboard on camera when asked. If the room doesn’t pass the scan, you can’t test and you lose the fee.

  • Your ID, for photos at check-in
  • A computer that passes GMAC’s system check, with a webcam. No touchscreens or ultrawide monitors
  • A clear desk and room, with nothing within arm’s reach
  • Water in a clear container, if you want it
  • A physical whiteboard no larger than 12 x 20 inches, up to two dry-erase markers and an eraser, if you’d rather not use the on-screen whiteboard

Leave the calculator at home

Calculators aren’t allowed, at a test center or online. You get an on-screen calculator in Data Insights only. Quant has no calculator.
