Start with GMAC’s free Official Starter Kit. It has 70 real questions and two full practice exams scored on the real 205 to 805 scale, so you’ll know where you stand. Real questions matter most, and the Official Guide is the cheapest way to get lots of them. After that, we compare Target Test Prep, e-GMAT, Magoosh, Manhattan Prep, The Princeton Review, GMAT Club and GMAT Ninja, with what each costs and what you can try free as of October 2026. Make sure anything you buy covers the current three-section exam, without Sentence Correction or Integrated Reasoning.
This is where to start. The two exams are made by GMAC, the company that writes the GMAT, and they adapt to you like the real test, so your score is a fair read of where you are. Take one early, timed, before you buy anything. You need a free mba.com account.

Real retired GMAT questions with explanations, plus a code for the online question bank on mba.com, where you can build timed sets by topic and difficulty. Buy it new: the code works once, so used copies usually come with a spent one. The bundle only pays off if you'll work through all three review books.

Four more real, adaptive practice tests from GMAC, with the same scoring and timing as the real exam. Save them for the last few weeks, when you want to check your timing and see if you're ready to book. The bundle is usually the cheapest way to get all four.

A self-paced course sold by the month or in 4- and 6-month blocks. The self-study plans come with a 130-point score improvement guarantee, with conditions. Those prices are sale prices from a higher list price, and extra coupon codes come and go, so check before you pay. Plans aren't refundable, so use the trial first.

The biggest GMAT forum. Paste almost any practice question into a search and you'll find a thread explaining it. Check that a thread is about the current exam before you trust it, since older posts cover Sentence Correction and the old 200 to 800 scale. Its app has 4.9 stars from about 1,300 ratings on the App Store.

Long, topic-by-topic lessons on quant and verbal, plus Q&A episodes on study plans. It's run by a tutoring company, so expect mentions of its paid tutoring. Some older episodes cover Sentence Correction, which is no longer on the test, so skip those.
