How much does a New York learner permit cost?

As of October 2026 you’ll pay between $64.25 and $92.50, depending on your age. That one fee covers the permit, the test and the license you get later. If you live in New York City or one of the nearby counties, a small extra fee is added.

Those are the Bronx, Brooklyn (Kings), Manhattan (New York), Queens, Staten Island (Richmond), Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester.

Want an Enhanced permit?

An Enhanced permit costs $30 more. Which type you get, Standard, Enhanced or REAL ID, depends on the documents you bring.
