Your PANCE study plan

Enter your test date and you get a PANCE study plan for the days you have left: 43 short lessons across the content areas in NCCPA’s blueprint, with the last two days kept for our 20 practice questions and a redo of your misses. You book your date inside a 180-day window, so you can plan backward from the day you choose.

If you buy an NCCPA practice exam, its performance profile shows which systems to move up the plan.

Pick the date of your test and how long you can study each day. You’ll get a plan that takes you right up to the test.

How do you build a PANCE study plan?

  1. Download NCCPA’s content blueprint. It lists the diseases and tasks the exam draws on, with each one’s share of the questions.
  2. Give the most time to the biggest systems: cardiovascular is 11% of the exam, pulmonary 9%, and gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal 8% each.
  3. Read NCCPA’s free sample questions and their critiques to see how a PANCE vignette is built.
  4. Take an NCCPA practice exam partway through. Its performance profile shows your strong and weak content areas, though NCCPA says it doesn’t predict your real result.
  5. Run through the Pearson VUE tutorial before test day, so the screens, the lab values table and the review tools are familiar.

Plan your breaks as well as your study

The exam day has 45 minutes of break time for all five blocks, and you manage it yourself. NCCPA warns that long breaks early in the day can leave you with none later, and any break time you go over comes off your exam time. Practice sitting through 60-question, one-hour blocks so the pace feels normal.

How long should you study for the PANCE?

NCCPA doesn’t give a number of weeks or hours. What it does fix is your window: you apply up to 180 days before you finish your program, and you get 180 days to test once your window opens. Set the plan to finish a few days before the date you book, and book early, since NCCPA advises scheduling as soon as you can to get the center and date you want.
