Fee waivers

ETS gives out a limited number of waivers each year, first come, first served. A waiver covers up to three Core tests or one Subject Assessment, and you can get one per testing year. If you ask for all three Core tests, the voucher is for Core Combined (5752).

ETS lists these criteria: you’re receiving financial aid, you’re enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a current Enrollment Verification Certificate, your 2026-2027 FAFSA Submission Summary shows an Expected Family Contribution of $3,000 or less, and an authorized score recipient requires you to take the test. People who already hold a master’s or doctoral degree can’t get one.

To apply, email the request form and your documents to ETS. Ask early, because waivers run out.

Free retakes after three tries

Under ETS’s Free After 3 program, if you’ve taken the same test three times, with your first try on or after October 1, 2025, further retakes of that test are free. Your scores must have been reported each time, and the third score within the last five years. It’s applied at checkout when you register again.

Prep doesn’t have to cost anything

The Study Companion for every test is free, and your registration includes one free Interactive Practice Test. Extra official practice tests are $24.95 each. Courses and apps are optional.
