How to sign up for the Praxis

You sign up online in a free Praxis account on the ETS website. Pick your test, choose at home or a test center, and book a date and time that suits you. At-home appointments are offered seven days a week. You can reschedule up to 3 days before for $40.

How to register

  1. Check your state’s requirements on the ETS site so you know which tests you need.
  2. Sign in to your Praxis account, or create one. Use your name exactly as it appears on your ID.
  3. Add your test to the cart. For all three Core tests, Core Combined (5752) is cheaper than buying them one by one.
  4. Choose to test at home or at a test center. At-home testing is only for people testing in the US.
  5. Pick your date and time.
  6. Choose your educator preparation program and up to four free score recipients.
  7. Review your cart, add any voucher or promo code, and pay.

Registering by phone

You can also register by phone for a test-center appointment at 1-800-772-9476, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Eastern time. You still need a Praxis account, you must call at least four days before the test date, and there’s a $35 surcharge.

How to reschedule or cancel

Rescheduling costs $40. Cancelling on time gets you back 50% of the test fee. Late cancellations and no-shows don’t get a refund.

  1. Sign in and go to My Tests.
  2. Choose View Details on your test.
  3. Click Reschedule, or Cancel Test at the bottom of the page.
  4. Do it at least 3 days before your test date, not counting test day.

Retaking a test

You have to wait 28 days after your last test date before you can take the same test again. That’s true even if you cancelled your scores. There’s no wait between different Praxis tests.

If you missed your test entirely, for example because of a technical problem, you can register again 3 business days after the original date. That isn’t counted as a retake.
