From raw score to scaled score
Each multiple-choice question you answer correctly is worth one raw point. There’s no penalty for a wrong answer, so never leave a question blank.
Because each test comes in several versions, called forms, ETS converts your raw score to a scaled score. That adjusts for small differences in difficulty, so a 160 means about the same thing whichever version you got. ETS doesn’t publish a fixed conversion, so you can’t turn a number of correct answers into an exact score yourself.
How the Core Writing essays are scored
Each of the two essays is scored as a whole on a six-point scale. A trained human reader and ETS’s e-rater software both score it. If they disagree by too much, another human reader decides. Your multiple-choice points and essay points are shown separately on your score report.

When you get your scores
If your test is all multiple choice, you see an unofficial score on screen at the end. Core Writing has essays, so it doesn’t. Before you see an unofficial score, you choose whether to report or cancel your scores. A cancelled score can’t be brought back, and the fee isn’t refunded.
Official scores appear in your Praxis account on a set score reporting date, and ETS emails you when they’re ready. ETS reports scores on Tuesdays and Fridays. Your scores stay in your account for ten years.
Did you pass?
Your score report says whether you met the passing score for each recipient you chose. You pass if your score is equal to or higher than that state’s or agency’s qualifying score. The same score can be a pass in one state and not in another.
