Texas teacher certification lookup

The Texas teacher certification lookup is the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Certificate Lookup, on TEA’s own site: the button above opens it, and records can’t be searched here. Type the educator’s first and last name to see their record. TEA calls that record, the virtual certificate, the official record of educator certification in Texas under Texas Education Code §21.053(a). For your own certificates, you can also sign in to your TEA account.

  • Several weeksTEA’s time for another state’s form
  • April to OctoberTEA’s busiest months for those forms

How does the Texas teacher certification lookup work?

  1. Open TEA’s Certificate Lookup in Google Chrome.
  2. Enter the educator’s first and last name exactly as they are in TEA’s database.
  3. Open the record to see the certificates held, and use the link at the top of it for certificate history where there is one.
  4. Check the “official record date” at the bottom shows the present date. If it doesn’t, clear your cache and cookies and refresh.

A name that doesn’t match TEA’s database won’t find the record, so try the name the educator used when they applied.

Seeing your own certificate and exam results

TEA doesn’t mail paper certificates. Log in to your TEA Login (TEAL) account, open the Educator Certification Online System (ECOS), update your profile if it asks you to, and select View Certificates. The same account lists your exam results under View Examinations, and Pearson keeps your TExES (Texas Examinations of Educator Standards) score reports for exams taken from September 1, 2006, in your testing account.

Verifying a Texas certificate for another state

TEA doesn’t write individual letters of professional standing or verification. If the other state has a PDF fillable verification form, you can send it through TEA’s help desk; it has to include a valid email address for the licensing agency asking for it. Forms that ask about your preparation program come back unanswered, so send those to your Texas educator preparation program instead.

TEA asks you to allow several weeks, and longer from April through October, its busiest period. For exams taken before September 1, 2006, TEA issues a state-sealed test verification letter in about three weeks, sent electronically only from June 2024.
