How to book the TOEFL iBT

You book the TOEFL iBT online in your ETS account. Choose a test center or the Home Edition, pick a date and time, and pay. Regular registration closes 7 full days before the test. After that, you pay an express fee until 2 days before.

How to register

  1. Create an ETS account at ets.org/mytoefl. Use your name exactly as it appears on your ID.
  2. Choose how you’ll test: at a test center, or at home with the Home Edition.
  3. Pick a date and time. ETS shows the dates available near you.
  4. Pay by card, PayPal or e-check in US dollars. In the US, sales tax is added.
  5. Add up to 4 free score recipients, by 10 p.m. local test center time the day before your test.

Retaking the test

There’s no limit on how many times you can take the TOEFL. But you can’t take it more than once in any 3-day period, even if you canceled your scores. You also can’t book a second date within 3 days of a test you’ve already booked.

Each attempt costs the full fee. Schools see your MyBest scores, your best score in each section from all valid tests in the last 2 years.

If you need accommodations

If you have a disability or health-related need, you must get accommodations approved before you register. ETS says the review takes about 4 to 6 weeks once it has your request and full paperwork, so apply early.
