How much does the TOEFL cost?

The test fee

The fee covers the whole test, Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking, plus your scores in your ETS account, your MyBest scores and up to 4 free score reports. ETS shows the price for your location before you pay. We couldn’t confirm the current US figure on ETS’s own site in October 2026, so check it there before you register.

In the United States, the price on the page doesn’t include sales tax. It’s added when you place your order.

Extra fees as of October 2026

A review of your Speaking or Writing score also costs extra. You can ask for one within 30 days of your test, but not after you’ve sent scores to a school.

How to keep the cost down

• Register at least 7 full days before your test to avoid the express fee.
• Choose your 4 free score recipients by 10 p.m., local test center time, the day before your test. After that, each report costs $29.
• If you have to change your date, do it at least 4 full days before. Later than that, you lose your fee.
• Practice with ETS’s free practice test before you book, so you only pay once.

Refunds

Cancel at least 4 full days before your test and you get 50% of the test fee back. It goes back automatically to the card or account you paid with. Cancel later, or miss the test, and there’s no refund.

ETS also has a Fee Reduction Service for US high school seniors with financial need who are applying to colleges that ask for TOEFL scores. It’s a voucher for 50% of the test fee.
