You reach a Stop sign. What must you do there?
20 practice questions in the style of the theory test.
How close is this learner licence practice test to the real one in NZ?
The real test has 35 multi-choice questions, drawn from a pool of about 200, and you get 30 minutes on a computer at a driver licensing agent. These 20 are ours, not NZTA’s. They test the same road code rules in different words, so a good score means you’re on track, not that you’ll pass.
They cover intersections, signalling and roundabouts, speed and following distance, lanes and overtaking, crossings, night and wet driving, parking and the alcohol limit. None of them ask about licence stages, because the government changes the car licence system on 25 January 2027.
Then unlock Drive’s official practice tests
Drive, NZTA’s free learning site, has official practice tests that unlock as you pass the chapter tests in the Drive Road Code. Pass 3 chapter tests and you get one, and pass all 12 to take as many as you like. The where-to-learn page compares them with the AA’s paid tests and a few apps.
