How to book
- Go to the Life in the UK Test page on GOV.UK and use its link to the booking service.
- Create an account with your email address.
- Enter your ID. If you have an eVisa, you must use a share code from your UKVI account.
- Pick a test centre. There are over 30 in the UK, and you choose one when you book.
- Choose a date and time and pay £50 by debit or credit card.
Accepted ID
The name on your booking must match your ID exactly. On the day, bring the same original ID. Copies and screenshots aren’t accepted. If you have none of these, GOV.UK says to contact UKVI.
- An eVisa share code, if you have an eVisa
- A valid passport
- A valid national ID card from the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway
- A valid travel document with a photo (not an emergency travel document)
- A biometric residence permit or card. If it has expired, your test must be no later than 24 months after the expiry date on the card, and before 31 December 2026, whichever comes first.
How soon can you get a test?
GOV.UK says to book at least 3 days ahead. The booking service’s FAQ says you can test as early as 24 hours after booking if you pay for a priority slot: £30 extra for within 24 hours, or £25 for within 24 to 72 hours.
The FAQ also says you can usually get a test within a month, and shouldn’t wait more than two months.
Changing or cancelling
You can change your date and time for free up to 72 hours before your appointment. After that you can’t change it.
Cancel at least 3 days (72 hours) ahead and you get a refund. Later than that, you don’t.
