What cancelling a PLAB exam costs
The cancellation fee depends on how many days before your test date you cancel.
| When you cancel | PLAB 1 | PLAB 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Over 42 days before | £28.30 | £103.60 |
| 42 to 29 days before | £283 | £518 |
| 28 days or less before | £283 | £1,036 |
More than 42 days ahead, you pay 10% of the fee for either part. For PLAB 1, cancelling 42 days or less before costs the full fee. For PLAB 2, it’s 50% between 42 and 29 days before, and the full fee at 28 days or less.
Can you get PLAB exam fees back?
The GMC will consider refunding the PLAB 1 cancellation fee in full if exceptional circumstances stop you attending, such as a visa refusal, travel restrictions, ill health or bereavement. Cancel first, then email your evidence, which must be official documentation.
To swap to another PLAB 1 place, you cancel your booking, which takes the cancellation fee, and then book the place you want. If the GMC or its exam providers cancel a PLAB 1 exam, your fee is refunded automatically and, where possible, you’re offered another date. The GMC doesn’t cover costs such as visas, travel or accommodation.
Fees for refugee doctors
If you’re a refugee doctor living in the UK, PLAB 1 is free for your first two attempts, and the PLAB 2 fee is reduced by 50% for your first two attempts. To book, call the GMC on 0161 923 6602.
Fees after you pass
Registration has its own fees. The GMC’s fees page lists £481 to apply for full registration with a licence to practise, and an annual fee of £481 for registration with a licence. Annual fees are halved if your worldwide income is under £38,500 and you don’t already have a discount.
