Maryland learner’s permit practice test

This Maryland learner’s permit practice test has 20 free questions written from the Maryland Driver’s Manual, the book the MVA says the real questions come from. The real test has 25 questions and you need 22 right, which is 88%. Here we use our own bar: 18 of 20, which is close to that. Four questions show a sign or signal. Pick an answer to see why it’s right, and anything you miss comes back at the end.

Question 1 of 20

For a license with no vision restrictions, what visual acuity do you need in each eye?

20 practice questions in the style of the permit test.

How close is this Maryland learner’s permit practice test to the real one?

The bar is close: 88% on the real test, 90% here. The real test is longer and has a 20-minute time limit, and these questions are ours, written from the manual, not the MVA’s.

Like the real test, it has a motorcycle safety question. A 2026 Maryland law, Chapter 539, puts at least one on the licensing exam. The rest run from right-of-way and signs to crashes, implied consent and child safety seats.

Then take the MVA’s timed tutorial

The MVA’s free Online Driver Test Tutorial has 25-question practice tests, untimed or timed, in English or Spanish. Do the timed one after these 20 to practice finishing inside the time limit. The where-to-learn page explains each version.
