TExES practice test questions for the PPR EC-12

Here are 20 free TExES practice questions we wrote for the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) EC-12 (160), the pedagogy exam most Texas classroom certificates call for. Each one sets a classroom situation and asks for the best response, from planning lessons to your legal duties. The real PPR has 100 selected-response questions, so treat this as a quick check of how you think through teaching decisions, not a full practice test.

A second-grade teacher is starting a unit on fractions. Which first activity best fits how most children this age learn?

How to use these 20 PPR questions

Questions 1 to 7 are about planning lessons and assessments, 8 to 10 classroom climate, 11 to 16 teaching and checking learning during lessons, and 17 to 20 working with families and your legal duties.

Aim for 15 right, which is 75%. That’s our own target, not Pearson’s. A TExES exam is passed with a scaled score of 240 on a 100 to 300 scale, and Pearson says the number of right answers behind a 240 can vary slightly between versions. If an answer doesn’t click, ask the tutor to explain it another way.

Where can you find more TExES practice test questions?

Pearson’s PPR EC-12 (160) preparation manual has sample questions with answers and rationales, and Pearson sells a $10 interactive practice exam for the PPR. Our 20 don’t come from Pearson or TEA, so use the official material as your main guide.
