What you pay
| What | Fee (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Application for citizenship, general eligibility (form 1300t) | $595 |
| Same application, concession rate | $85 |
| Sitting the citizenship test | No extra charge |
Most permanent residents apply under general eligibility. You pay the fee once, when you lodge your application online. There’s no separate payment at the test.
Can you get the concession rate?
Only some applicants can. Home Affairs’ fee form, 1298i, explains who qualifies and what proof you need to attach. Read it before you pay the full amount.
Why you might see a different number
Fees go up from time to time, usually on 1 July. Older websites, and at least one Home Affairs web page, still show lower amounts from earlier years. The fee form dated July 2026 is the latest official figure we found.
The amount shown when you pay in ImmiAccount is the one that counts. Check it there, or in the current form 1298i, before you apply.
Studying doesn’t have to cost anything
The official booklet, Our Common Bond, is free, and so is the Home Affairs practice test. Paid apps and courses are optional. See our page on where to learn for what each one costs.
