LANTITE cost and registration

In 2026 the LANTITE costs $98 for one component and $196 for both, including goods and services tax (GST). You pay the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) by card when you register for a window, and you pay again each time you sit a component of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE). As of 30 October 2026, ACER’s Payment page gives only the 2026 fee, so check the LANTITE cost there before you register for a 2027 window.

How much does the LANTITE cost?

ItemFee
One component, 2026$98
Both components, 2026$196
Cancellation charge$12 per component

Registering also gives you ACER’s online practice tests in your account. You pay by Mastercard or Visa, credit or debit; ACER doesn’t take American Express, Diners Club, cheques or cash. The fee can’t go on a HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan, because it’s paid in full when you register.

If you can’t afford it, ACER suggests talking to your university about the support it offers, or contacting Study Assist about the Australian Government’s study assistance programs.

Universities that may pay the fee

Griffith University may cover the LANTITE cost for eligible students, and so may La Trobe University for its Nexus Postgraduate Program and Edith Cowan University for its HAT@ECU Program only. ACER notes that Queensland University of Technology no longer covers the fee.

You register as usual and ask your university to approve and pay. Your booking isn’t confirmed until it does, which can take up to 3 working days. If you skip a session without cancelling by the registration closing date, your university may not approve you again.

How to register for the LANTITE

  1. Check you can sit it. You need to be enrolled in an accredited initial teacher education (ITE) course, or be a prospective student who isn’t enrolled, which includes people in pathway programs.
  2. Create an ACER candidate account, or sign in to the one you have.
  3. During the window’s registration period, pick each component you want. Literacy and numeracy are booked separately.
  4. Choose a test centre session, or remote proctoring. The same choice applies to every component you book in that window. For remote proctoring, upload your portrait photo and ID first, because you can only pay after that.
  5. Pay by card. ACER emails a confirmation straight away, and reminders closer to the test.

Then apply for reasonable adjustments if you need them, and for remote proctoring, schedule your sessions with ProctorU. Enter your name, date of birth and university carefully: they go on your statement of results.

Cancelling and getting a refund

Up to the close of registrations, you can cancel one or both components in your account and get the fee back on the card you paid with, less $12 for each component cancelled. Any practice material that came with the registration is withdrawn once the refund is done.

After registrations close, the fee isn’t refundable, except where the Australian Consumer Law requires it. ACER says changing your mind or being ill aren’t covered, and nor is failing to book a remote session with ProctorU in time. If you don’t turn up at all, you lose the fee, but it isn’t counted as an attempt.
