Ontario bar exam dates and deadlines

The Law Society of Ontario (LSO) lists exam dates through March 7, 2028, and each sitting has its own deadlines for applying, registering and deferring. In each sitting it lists, the barrister exam comes first and the solicitor exam two weeks later. The LSO says the Ontario bar exam dates are subject to change, so check them before you plan around one.

What are the Ontario bar exam dates for 2027-28?

Each licensing year usually includes three sittings: summer, fall and winter. These are the 2027‑28 sittings, with the deadline to register, which is also the deadline to defer or cancel. In November 2026 the LSO listed them as subject to change, and registration wasn’t open for them.

The study materials for the 2027‑28 licensing year are set for release on April 13, 2027.

Application and accommodation deadlines for 2027-28

Your licensing process application must be submitted and paid by the application deadline before you can register for an exam. The application deadlines are:

  • March 1, 2027, for the summer 2027 sittings
  • July 28, 2027, for the fall 2027 sittings
  • November 26, 2027, for the winter 2028 sittings

Accommodation requests for needs that are emergent, change or arise after you apply are due by April 28, 2027 for the summer sittings, September 20, 2027 for the fall sittings and January 10, 2028 for the winter sittings. Raise any other need when you submit your application.

Sittings in the 2026-27 licensing year

The LSO lists four exams for 2026‑27, at its fall and winter sittings in Toronto and Ottawa:

The LSO set the winter registration deadlines at January 12, 2027 for the barrister exam and January 27, 2027 for the solicitor exam. For the February 25, 2027 barrister exam, it offered Muslim candidates an alternative start time for Ramadan, requested through LSO Connects.

Where you write

You register for a location in LSO Connects. For the winter sittings of 2026‑27, the LSO named these venues:

  • Toronto Congress Centre, North Building, 1020 Martin Grove Rd., Etobicoke, with free parking
  • Infinity Convention Centre, 2901 Gibford Dr., Ottawa, with paid parking

For summer 2027 the LSO lists Toronto, Ottawa, London, Windsor and Thunder Bay, and for fall 2027 and winter 2028 Toronto and Ottawa, with venues to be confirmed.

Places outside Toronto have limited capacity and aren’t guaranteed, and priority may go to candidates whose address on file is closest. The LSO may change your location and tells you at least four weeks before the exam.
