IELTS test dates and test centres

There’s no single worldwide IELTS calendar. Each centre sets its own dates, and on computer there are plenty: IDP India lists tests 3 times a day, 7 days a week, and Toronto has them almost every day. Search the official centre finder, or the British Council or IDP site for your country. Paper tests are being phased out from mid-2026.

How to find a date near you

  1. Decide which test you need first: Academic, General Training, IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills.
  2. Search the official IELTS centre finder. It covers more than 4,500 locations in over 160 countries.
  3. Or go straight to the British Council or IDP site for your country, where you can see dates and book.
  4. In the USA, your results come through your IELTS USA account. In Australia, IDP’s site is ielts.com.au.

Paper tests are ending

IELTS announced that from mid-2026 it no longer offers paper-based IELTS, with the exact timing set country by country. In some countries you can still handwrite the Writing section with Writing on Paper, while the rest is on computer. IELTS for UKVI is computer only.

If you already have a paper result, it stays valid for the usual two years.

Before you pick a date

  • Leave time for your result to arrive before any deadline. On computer that’s usually 1 to 5 days.
  • Your Speaking test may be on a different day from the other three sections.
  • You can move your date once, to a new date within three months of the original. A late change may count as a cancellation.
