How much the SQE costs

SQE1 costs £2,006 and SQE2 costs £3,086 for anyone booking to sit from October 2026 onwards, which comes to £5,092 for both parts, by our sum. Those are the 2026/27 fees for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) itself, set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Training is extra, and so are a few smaller SRA charges on the way to admission, so the full SQE cost depends on how you prepare.

How SQE fees have changed

YearSQE1SQE2
2026/27£2,006£3,086
2025/26£1,934£2,974
2024/25£1,888£2,902

The SRA raises the fees each year in line with inflation, plus a small extra amount towards translating the assessments into Welsh. The 2026/27 fees apply to anyone who books to take the SQE from October 2026 onwards.

How much does the SQE cost with training?

The fee covers the assessment only. Training is priced separately by each provider, and the course prices on the where-to-learn page are on top of these fees.

The SRA points to a few ways the bill can be lower. A postgraduate master’s loan can pay for a master’s with SQE training, and some of those set their fees at or below the loan. Solicitor apprentices have their SQE training and assessments paid through the apprenticeship levy. And the SRA’s SQE Access and Reinvestment Fund pays for SQE places through 11 organisations that support candidates facing barriers.
