SQE practice questions from the SRA

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) gives away 220 sample questions for SQE1 and 10 for SQE2, the two parts of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), all free on the SQE website. They’re the only SQE practice questions that come from the people who set the exam, and the SQE1 set includes questions used in previous exam papers.

SQE1 sample questions

The SQE1 set has grown in stages. There were 130 questions until December 2024, when the SRA added 40, and 50 more came in November 2025, split evenly between FLK1 and FLK2. That brought the total to 220, and the SRA says the new ones had been used in previous exam papers.

In April 2026 the set was refreshed after the annual review, with small clarity changes and updated dates and tax years. The questions show the format and standard of SQE1, but they’re a sample: they don’t cover everything the papers can test.

SQE2 sample questions and answers

There are 10 SQE2 sample questions. Each comes with a written discussion of the answer, guidance on the legal points and an analysis of performance. Three added in February 2025 include sample candidate performances in advocacy for dispute resolution and in client interviews for wills and probate and for property practice. Two more, in wills, probate and business organisations, came in December 2025.

Kaplan, the SRA’s assessment provider, changed the SQE website’s terms in December 2025 so training providers can use the sample questions in their own materials, under conditions.

How should you use SQE practice questions?

  • Time yourself. From January 2027 each SQE1 session is 85 questions in 2 hours 33 minutes, which works out at about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, by our sum.
  • Read the matching assessment specification alongside the questions, so you can see which topics a sample doesn’t reach.
  • Read Kaplan’s candidate confidentiality policy. It sets out what you can and can’t share about real assessment content.

More practice from SQE courses

Paid SQE courses and question banks add their own mock exams. They’re written by the providers, not the SRA, and the SRA’s course finder lets you filter them by price and study mode.
