Your options
- Book an MVD office appointment on AZMVDNow.gov.
- Or walk into any MVD office. MVD says no appointment is needed.
- Or use an Authorized Third Party office. These are private companies ADOT allows to run written and road tests, and they may charge a convenience fee on top of the state fee.
- Or take the knowledge test at home with Permit Test @ Home, then visit an office for your documents, vision test and photo.
Before you go
- Check that your address is current on AZMVDNow.gov. Your card is mailed there, and MVD says to allow up to 15 days
- Bring your original documents in one folder
- If you’re under 18, bring your parent or guardian to sign
- Check the office’s hours before you leave. Third-party office hours vary
The road test is a separate step
Under 18, you’ll hold your permit for six months before a Class G license. If you log 30 hours of practice (10 at night), or 20 hours (6 at night) after an approved course, you take a road test then. If you finish an approved high school or private driver education program, MVD waives the road test.
