State or county: which one you need
| You want to | Go to |
|---|---|
| Take the written test, get a permit, license or state ID | A state driver license office (some are county-run, such as El Paso and Douglas) |
| Take the drive test | An approved third-party driving school or tester |
| Register a car, renew tags, transfer a title | Your own county's motor vehicle office, myDMV or an MV Express kiosk |
County offices only serve people who live in that county, and their hours and fees vary.

Hours
Most driver license offices open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, as of October 2026. Some smaller ones close for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. (Craig, Hot Sulphur Springs, Steamboat Springs and Gunnison among them), and a few open only some days: Eads on Tuesday and Wednesday, Wray on Monday and Wednesday, Yuma on Tuesday.
Colorado Springs-Union Town Center also opens Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check the DMV's locations page for closures before you go.
The DMV doesn't post wait times for walk-ins. With an appointment, the scheduler shows the first open slot at each office, which is the best guide to how busy Colorado Springs or Denver is that week.
