Is there an official EPPP study guide?
ASPPB’s Candidate Handbook is the nearest thing to one. ASPPB recommends reading it before either part, and you confirm you’ve read it when you register. It covers:
- The content areas of both parts, with the weight of each domain
- Sample Part 1 questions, and sample Part 2 questions with a link to more
- Applying, registering and asking for accommodations
- Scheduling, fees, rescheduling and the no-refund policy
- Exam day, results, scaled scores and retakes
- Score transfers and the French version of Part 1
EPPP Part 1 content areas and weights
Part 1 (Knowledge) splits its 175 scored questions across eight domains. Assessment and ethics carry the most weight, and research methods the least.
| Domain | Share |
|---|---|
| Biological bases of behavior | 10% |
| Cognitive-affective bases of behavior | 13% |
| Social and cultural bases of behavior | 11% |
| Growth and lifespan development | 12% |
| Assessment and diagnosis | 16% |
| Treatment and intervention | 15% |
| Research methods and statistics | 7% |
| Ethical, legal and professional issues | 16% |
The sixth domain’s full name is treatment, intervention, prevention and supervision.
ASPPB breaks the domains into 71 knowledge statements, numbered KN1 to KN71, on its content areas page. These weights have applied from February 15, 2018, and ASPPB says the Part 1 and Part 2 exams given in 2026 and 2027 keep their published blueprints.
EPPP Part 2 skill domains
Part 2 (Skills) tests how you’d apply Part 1’s knowledge to decisions in everyday independent practice. A third of it is assessment and intervention.
| Domain | Share |
|---|---|
| Scientific orientation | 6% |
| Assessment and intervention | 33% |
| Relational competence | 16% |
| Professionalism | 11% |
| Ethical practice | 17% |
| Collaboration, consultation, supervision | 17% |
Its question types go beyond standard multiple choice: questions with more than one right answer, scenarios that can include video and audio, point-and-click questions on an image such as a test protocol, and drag-and-drop matching. Each scenario can carry up to five questions.
The 2027 blueprint for the integrated EPPP
ASPPB has already published the content outline for the single exam that replaces both parts in fall 2027. It came from a 2025 job task analysis with input from almost 3,000 licensed psychologists, and it also applies to the beta test in spring 2027.
| Domain | Share |
|---|---|
| Scientific orientation to practice | 15% |
| Assessment | 20% |
| Intervention | 20% |
| Consultation and supervision | 10% |
| Interpersonal relationships | 15% |
| Ethical and professional practice | 20% |
For the beta test and the integrated exam, ASPPB names three main study resources: this blueprint, its integrated sample exam and an integrated Candidate Handbook, which it said it would publish in 2026.
