Using it as your Idaho driver’s license study guide
- Read the permits, graduated license and testing pages first, so you know which permit you’re applying for and what to bring.
- Study Highway and Vehicle Knowledge closely. It holds the signs, signals and pavement markings.
- Then study Traffic Laws and the Rules of the Road for the speed limits, signaling distances, right-of-way and parking rules.
- Read the rest for equipment, sharing the road, weather and the alcohol and point rules.
- Finish with the practice questions at the back and ITD’s online sample test, and look up every answer you get wrong.
Spanish, audio and printed copies
ITD links a Spanish edition, the Manual del Conductor, dated July 2026 like the English one. The audio version is split into chapters you can play one at a time, about three hours in all. ITD suggests following along in the PDF to see the diagrams. ITD doesn’t date the recording and its audio page links a 2016 copy of the handbook, so check anything you hear against the July 2026 PDF.
ITD’s audio page also says a printed copy of the current handbook is available at your local county driver’s license office.
Idaho driving laws in the handbook
The handbook paraphrases Idaho’s traffic laws. Its opening page says courts go by the actual wording of the statutes, not the handbook, and the driver licensing laws are in Idaho Code Title 49, chapter 3. For the test, the handbook is what counts.
Motorcycle and commercial manuals
The handbook covers the Class D license. Riders study the Motorcycle Rider’s Handbook and commercial drivers study the Idaho Commercial Driver’s License Manual. Both are dated July 2026 and linked from ITD’s Drivers Licenses and ID Cards page.
