Where to find an Idaho practice drivers test

Start with the online sample Class D driver test from the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and the practice questions at the back of the Idaho Driver’s Handbook. The handbook warns that web-based practice tests don’t accurately represent Idaho’s knowledge test, with the exception of ITD’s own sample questions. For an Idaho practice drivers test with more questions, apps and websites from other companies add timed tests and explanations, but their questions are their own.

Is there an official Idaho practice drivers test?

Yes. ITD’s Taking the Driver’s Test page links a Practice Class D Drivers Test in English and another in Spanish. Pick an answer and the page tells you whether it’s right, and a separate answer sheet is there for screen readers and browsers without JavaScript. ITD notes that more than one answer may be correct and asks you to choose the best one.

The handbook’s own practice questions are at the back, with the answer key near the front. ITD also posts a bicycle safety quiz in English and Spanish. The handbook gives bicyclists several pages of its own.

A study plan for the knowledge test

  1. Read the handbook from “One Driver, One License, One Record” to the end. The test covers traffic laws, signs, signals, pavement markings and required equipment.
  2. Spend extra time on Highway and Vehicle Knowledge, the signs, signals and markings section, and on Traffic Laws and the Rules of the Road.
  3. Write down the numbers: speed limits, signaling distances, parking distances, the railroad stopping distance and the alcohol limits.
  4. Answer the practice questions at the back of the handbook, then ITD’s online sample test, and look up every one you miss.
  5. Add an app or website if you want more timed practice.

Choosing an app or website

Pick one built for Idaho, so the questions follow the Idaho Driver’s Handbook and not another state’s rules. A quick check is whether it describes the real test the way the handbook does: 40 questions, and you can miss up to six.

Practice during drivers ed

If you’re in driver training, the course’s own quizzes and final test come from your school or online program. The knowledge test at the county office comes later, after at least six months on your supervised instruction permit, so the handbook and ITD’s sample test stay useful the whole time.

Motorcycle and commercial practice

ITD’s online practice tests cover the Class D car test and bicycle safety only. Riders study the Motorcycle Rider’s Handbook (July 2026) for the motorcycle knowledge test, and commercial drivers study the Idaho Commercial Driver’s License Manual (July 2026).
