Motorcycle license requirements by state

There are no national motorcycle license requirements. Each state decides its tests, permit rules, ages and whether a course is required or replaces a test. Twenty-one states have a detailed page on this site, and the table covers 17 more from each state’s own official page, as of October 2026. For the general steps, see how to get a motorcycle license and the motorcycle permit restrictions page.
