ISEE testing locations: a school, a testing office, Prometric or home

You can take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) at a school, at a professional testing office, at a Prometric Test Center or at home, and E3n says the test is given the same way everywhere. ISEE testing locations and dates come up in E3n’s Browse Test Dates search or when you start a registration. Fees depend on the site, the format and the grade your child is applying to.

ISEE testing seasons: how often you can test

A student can take the ISEE once in each testing season, so up to three times a school year:

  • Fall: August to November
  • Winter: December to March
  • Spring/Summer: April to July

A student who tests in September has to wait for the Winter season, from December, to test again.

Which ISEE testing locations can you use?

Prometric centers aren’t only for the ISEE, so other students and adults may be testing in the room. You can’t book a Prometric ISEE by phone; register online. E3n’s Prometric list is a PDF, and it says to start a registration for an up-to-date list.

The grade is the one your child is applying to. Paper registration costs the regular fee up to 21 days before, the late fee from 20 to 14 days before, and the walk-in fee after that, only at schools that hand out a walk-in code. Some testing offices also run at-home tests, with accommodations only.

Fee waivers come from the schools you’re applying to, not from E3n. A Universal ISEE fee waiver covers testing at a school, an office or at home, but not Prometric; some schools offer separate Prometric waivers. E3n says ISEE fee waivers expire on July 31, 2027.
