The Fee Assistance Program (FAP)
The AAMC Fee Assistance Program, often shortened to FAP, is for people with a US home address whose household income is at or below 400% of the federal poverty level for their family size. If you’re under 26 when you apply, your parents’ income counts too, whatever your marital or tax status.
Approval gets you the $145 MCAT fee, lower change fees, the full online AAMC MCAT Official Prep bundle for free, a two-year subscription to the MSAR database, and one AMCAS submission with fees waived for up to 20 medical schools. You can be approved up to five times in your life.
Get approved before you register. Benefits aren’t applied to fees you’ve already paid.
Canadians without a US address can apply to a separate program run by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) with the AAMC. It gives reduced registration and change fees and the AAMC online prep bundle, but awards are limited and go to those in greatest need.
FAP income limits
| People in the family | 2025 income limit (48 states, DC and US territories) |
|---|---|
| 1 | $62,600 |
| 2 | $84,600 |
| 3 | $106,600 |
| 4 | $128,600 |
| 5 | $150,600 |
| 6 | $172,600 |
| 7 | $194,600 |
| 8 | $216,600 |
As of October 2026, the AAMC checks your 2025 total family income against these limits. Add $5,500 for each person over eight. Limits are higher in Alaska ($78,200 for one person) and Hawaii ($71,960 for one person).
Benefits last from the day you’re approved until December 31 of the next year. If you’re approved any time in 2026, they run until December 31, 2027.
