What’s in the PEAT exam?
- Each exam runs the real length: 225 questions in 5 hours for physical therapists, 180 in 4 hours for assistants, with the same number of sections as the NPTE.
- One form is a retired NPTE form; the other is a practice form, written in the NPTE’s format by experienced clinicians and item writers. Each gives an estimated NPTE score.
- You can take each exam once. You can mark items, strike through options, pause, and log off and on where you left off.
- Your report comes straight away and looks like FSBPT’s Performance Feedback Report, by content area, body system and section.
- Study mode then shows rationales for the correct answers, references and how long you spent on each item.
- Supplemental materials on how the NPTE is built and how to use the blueprint, to download and keep.
- Timing options if you’ll take the NPTE with a timing accommodation, and a certificate of completion if your school or jurisdiction wants one.
Since October 11, 2023, PEAT has followed the content outlines in effect from January 2024 and the current format, with scenario-based questions. FSBPT says PEAT gives an NPTE-scaled score that is highly predictive of how candidates do on the real exam.
Buying PEAT and logging in
- FSBPT adds its 1.6% processing fee to the price, and takes Visa, MasterCard or Discover. You order from your FSBPT Customer Dashboard.
- PEAT is online only and runs in a current version of Edge, Firefox, Chrome or Safari, with pop-ups allowed.
- The access clock starts when you begin your first exam, not when you buy, and access ends early once you pass the NPTE.
- You can get a refund, less $15, only before you start the first exam.
- If you buy PEAT again, you get a different version: the one you bought least recently.
FSBPT emails a confirmation with access instructions once you’ve paid in full. For help, contact peat@fsbpt.org or 703-739-9420. PEAT has its own security agreement, like the NPTE.
When to use PEAT, and when the free demo is enough
FSBPT suggests PEAT if you want to see what the NPTE is like, rather than sitting the real exam just to look. Its report shows where you’re weak. FSBPT also says not to rely on PEAT, or any other single study tool, alone.
If you only want to learn the screens, the free NPTE Demonstration Examination does that, with a tutorial and sample questions. Educators can buy Academic PEAT for their programs at a discount.
